Have you read our previous blog (if you haven’t you should!) and realised that blogging is important but have no creative juices to start one...I was just like you!!!
Blogging has been something that I found quite tricky… what should I talk about? How can I relate it to the company? How can I make it enjoyable but remain professional and useful to my readers?
All of these questions led me to burning the midnight lamp and researching across various sites and platforms, speaking to my managers and colleagues – learning what helped them get their creative juices flowing.
Happy to share – all that hard work didn’t go in vain!
Below are tips and tricks compiled by me that will help you make writing blogs fun and exciting!
Now, I might not be the only one, but I find the most difficult step is starting the blog, what should I blog about? Where should I start? How do I start? All valid questions.
My first tip to combat this, and it might be the most annoying one is research...research.... and more research. You might be thinking…ugh so boringđź’¤… Yes, it can be quite boring at first, but I would suggest that you start by searching for your competitors. What blogs do they have that are engaging to their audience? What has helped me, and you might find it funny, is searching the industry I am working in and adding ‘blog’ at the end, for example, ‘marketing blog’. You would then be given a variety of different websites that gives ideas on which topics would be relevant to talk about in your industry sector allowing you to kickstart your creativity.
You could look into subscribing to different emailing lists relevant to your industry sector. As Merali Digital is in the marketing sector, mailing lists like The Daily CTA and Really Good Emails have been personally, a great source for finding various topics that are industry relevant and could be used to create your blog.
LinkedIn is another place that could help with your research. You would be able to find various topics and trends that individuals are talking about from the same sector. As a result, you can create a blog about your thoughts and opinions on that subject.
Once you have researched and brainstormed a couple of ideas that are industry specific, you would then decide which idea you have more knowledge and understanding in. With all that research you would have found blogs that are related to those ideas and so you begin to type up your own blog. What has helped me with creating my blog is choosing a topic that I can relate to and has a personal story that I can share with the user and so it comes as a conversation with your reader rather than just an article (of course, this depends on the topic you choose to talk about).
Make sure to add images and if possible, some videos to make your blog engaging and interactive for your reader. Ensure your blog is not too long, yes, I did mention talking about your personal experience but that wouldn’t mean writing a book. Try to make it short and sweet to keep the reader interested in your blog.
And of course, if you find yourself writing about a certain topic in depth, consider covering it over a series of blogs. Doing this, not only keeps your blogs crisp but also creates anticipation in the reader’s mind.
Lastly, remember to include a CTA to encourage your readers and guide them to become interested in your service/product.
Now go get started on your own blog, and, before you go, remember, consistency is key if you want to see results.
